Michael Schlaug is Managing Director of the fertilizer factory Yara Sluiskil. Mr. Schlaug has worked for the Norwegian multinational for over 25 years and previously held positions in Germany, Norway, Belgium and Belle Plaine (Canada) where he was Managing Director for six years.

Yara Sluiskil is the largest production site of the Norwegian company Yara International, which has offices in 52 countries worldwide. Yara Sluiskil produces nitrogen fertilizers and industrial chemicals, such as Air1 and NOxCare. Yara Sluiskil also produces CO2 for the soft drinks industry,  but also dry ice on which, for example, vaccines are stored or the supply of CO2 as a growth fluid in greenhouse horticulture. The raw materials that Yara uses are natural gas (methane), air and water. Solids such as dolomite stone serve as fillers for the fertilizer granules and contribute to soil improvement.

Yara’s high-quality crop nutrition can increase crop yields and improve product quality through precision farming, while reducing environmental impact. This offers added value for both the farmer and the entire food chain. Yara’s mission is simple yet ambitious, which is to responsibly feed the world and protect the planet.

The site in Sluiskil has factories that are among the best in the world in terms of safety, energy efficiency and reliability. Every year, 5 million tons of end product is shipped, of which more than 80 percent via ships.
